In a tense situation unfolding near Chase, officials are actively going door-to-door, notifying residents about mandatory evacuation orders due to the rapidly growing Mount Scatchard wildfire.

Local authorities have declared a State of Local Emergency in response to the escalating threat. Joni Heinrich, Chief Administrative Officer of the Village of Chase, confirmed that the fire was likely sparked by a truck descending from the Chase-Falkland area. A hay load ignited, leading to a blaze that quickly spread across the hills.

Fire crews from the BC Wildfire Service are on the scene, utilizing both ground teams and aerial support from helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. In a proactive measure, a unit crew will be stationed overnight, equipped with a helicopter featuring night vision capabilities to combat the flames.
