Another Hepatitis A Warning for Sunshine Coast Residents

Health officials in British Columbia are raising alarms once again as they warn of potential Hepatitis A exposure on the Sunshine Coast. Just a day after a previous alert, the Vancouver Coastal Health has issued a crucial advisory for anyone who enjoyed sandwiches or salads from Pepper Creek Pizza and Pasta in Sechelt. If you dined there between July 31 and August 14, or from August 23 to 29, you may need to take action!

To protect yourself, health authorities recommend that you get vaccinated as soon as possible. The good news? A single dose of the Hepatitis A vaccine can significantly reduce your risk of infection—if administered within two weeks of exposure.

Was Your Coffee Break a Risky Business?

This warning follows a separate alert for patrons of the Sea Monkey Coffee truck. Anyone who grabbed a bite at the truck parked at Sunday Cider between August 1 and August 25 is also potentially at risk, especially if they enjoyed the food. However, if you only had drinks, you’re in the clear.

While the overall risk of transmission remains low, it’s wise to self-monitor for symptoms of Hepatitis A, which can take between two to seven weeks to manifest and may linger for up to two months.

Know the Symptoms – Stay Informed!

Symptoms of Hepatitis A may include fatigue, appetite loss, unexpected weight loss, abdominal pain, muscle aches, and noticeable yellowing of the skin or eyes. While most cases resolve without severe consequences, in rare instances, the infection can lead to chronic liver damage.

Get Vaccinated for Free!

Vancouver Coastal Health is offering the Hepatitis A vaccine at no cost for eligible individuals at various clinics and pharmacies across the region. Don't delay—protect yourself and your loved ones!
