A Rapid Response to a Growing Threat
KAMLOOPS — In a dramatic turn of events, the BC Wildfire Service has successfully contained a wildfire that erupted near the Battle Bluffs trailhead on Sunday, June 15, holding it to just 1.5 hectares.
Fighting Fire from All Angles
Crews sprang into action almost immediately after the fire was detected. By early afternoon, the battle against the blaze had escalated, incorporating a formidable arsenal of resources: two airtankers, one helicopter, and a birddog aircraft were all deployed to combat the flames.
Ground Support Joins the Fight
In addition to aerial efforts, approximately six ground crews were on the scene, working tirelessly to extinguish the fire. Information officer Cali Nessman emphasized that the determination of resource allocation depended on the fire's progression, but stated, "Currently, we have the manpower available to intensify our efforts to snuff it out quickly."
Keeping Communities Safe
As firefighters tackle the blaze, the situation remains fluid. Authorities continue to monitor the area closely to safeguard nearby communities, especially given its proximity to the Kamloops Airport. Safety measures are in place to ensure that residents are informed and protected.
What’s Next?
As firefighting efforts continue, the focus remains on containment and eventual extinguishment. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and heed any further updates, as the situation develops.
