Tragic Night in Las Cruces: Shooting Leaves Three Dead and 15 Injured at Unauthorized Car Show

In a horrifying outbreak of violence, three individuals lost their lives, and fifteen others sustained injuries during a shooting incident at Young Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This shocking event unfolded late Friday night, sending shockwaves through the local community.

The park had been hosting an unauthorized car show, attracting around 200 participants, when tensions flared. The victims, ages ranging from just 16 to 36, were either treated at the park or rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent care.

She noted, “We don’t have sufficient tools, we are not bringing accountability to these communities” and emphasized the need for effective solutions to combat the state’s rising crime rates and gun violence.

In an effort to address ongoing safety concerns, recent legislative changes included increased penalties for vehicle theft and trafficking of dangerous substances like fentanyl, as well as strengthening red-flag laws to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed a threat. However, the governor lamented the lack of progress on juvenile justice reform, particularly in light of the significant number of firearms involved in the Las Cruces incident.

Witnesses and local authorities are now appealing to the public for any video footage or information that could assist in identifying the suspects responsible for this senseless act of violence. The area around Young Park remains cordoned off as investigators process the scene, described by Chief Story as a “huge crime scene with a lot of moving parts,” indicating that complete clearance will take time.
