Tragic Collision in Nanoose Bay Claims Life of Local Man

In a heartbreaking incident early Friday morning, January 3, 2025, a 61-year-old man from Nanoose Bay lost his life following a collision on Highway 19 near Northwest Bay Road. The Oceanside RCMP received the emergency report at approximately 7 a.m., detailing that a pedestrian had been struck in the highway's southbound lanes.

According to BC Highway Patrol Cpl. Michelle LeBrun, the man had just left the Petro-Canada service station and attempted to cross Northwest Bay Road before stepping onto the busy highway. Tragic findings indicate that the pedestrian allegedly crossed against the traffic signal, putting him in a perilous situation.

Cpl. LeBrun further elaborated that a pickup truck was involved in the incident, but the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. Several motorists who witnessed the unfortunate event have also provided their accounts to authorities to help piece together the moments leading up to the collision.

"All parties involved stayed on scene and have talked to police about what they witnessed," Cpl. LeBrun confirmed. "We encourage any additional witnesses to come forward if they haven't yet shared their information."
