DALLAS, Texas – In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded early Friday morning, a fire at a shopping center in Northwest Dallas claimed the lives of more than 500 animals, with the overwhelming majority being small birds. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans, the tragic death toll included a variety of pets from the Plaza Latina pet shop, where 579 animals ultimately succumbed to smoke inhalation.

The two-alarm blaze raged for approximately two hours, requiring the efforts of around 45 firefighters to bring it under control by 11 a.m. "While DFR personnel did search and attempt rescue, all animals in the shop unfortunately perished due to smoke inhalation," said Evans, highlighting the desperate yet ultimately futile efforts to save the innocent lives trapped inside.
