A Heart-Wrenching Tragedy in Langley

A heart-wrenching tragedy has unfolded in Langley, British Columbia, as a family mourns the unexpected loss of their beloved teenager, James, who was fatally struck by a commercial truck driver. The horrific accident occurred at the bustling intersection of 264 Street and Fraser Highway at approximately 6:20 a.m. on November 4.

The Incident

According to local law enforcement, the young man was walking to work when the incident took place. "Despite swift medical assistance, his injuries were extensive, and regrettably, he did not survive," expressed Chris Dickson, James's cousin, shedding light on the family's profound grief.

Investigation Underway

The Langley RCMP, accompanied by the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), has launched an investigation into the incident. ICARS specializes in reconstructing severe collisions to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the events. Additionally, due to the involvement of a commercial vehicle, the commercial vehicle safety enforcement unit is also contributing to the investigation.

James's Life and Legacy

James had recently celebrated his high school graduation in the spring of 2023 and was pursuing his studies at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he was transitioning from business management to computer science. Described as a charming and passionate young man, James had dreams of a bright future ahead.

"He was a wonderful son and a loving cousin, and his absence is a tremendous loss for our family," shared Dickson, who emphasized James's commitment to helping others, echoing his mother’s volunteer spirit with St. John Ambulance. Together, they often volunteered at the Aldergrove Legion, where James's kindness and empathy shone brightly. He also had fond memories participating in the Aldergrove Scouts, where his father served as a leader.

Community Support and Appeal

In an outpouring of support, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family and help organize a celebration of life for James. As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign has exceeded its initial goal of $5,000, raising over $6,000 within a short span, reflecting the community's love for the young man.
