The error went unnoticed for several days, only becoming apparent when she needed to pay other vital expenses, including her rent. Initially hopeful that the mistake could be rectified swiftly, Khan soon found herself frustrated as she tried to find out how long it would take to get her money back. "This process has been a frustrating song and dance for two weeks, with no one giving me clear answers," Khan lamented.
Unfortunately, Khan's experience is not an isolated incident. An earlier report highlighted a similar case involving a senior citizen who inadvertently overpaid her visa bill by $13,107 while aiming for just $131.07. She endured a torturous wait of over three months before her funds were returned.
In Khan's situation, CTV News intervened by contacting Metergy Solutions on her behalf. A spokesperson confirmed that her refund request was already in progress, stating, “Ms. Khan's refund was being expedited and scheduled for March 20. Given the urgency, we reached out to verify her e-transfer details to ensure a speedy resolution.” The energy company ultimately issued the refund directly to her bank account.
Nearly a month after the initial blunder, Khan received her full refund, minus her original electricity payment, which provided her with a significant sense of relief. “I'm incredibly grateful to CTV for their assistance. They are a voice for those who feel powerless,” Khan expressed, emphasizing the importance of media advocacy in such situations.
