Tinder users in California, get ready for a significant shake-up! As of July 7, logging into the dating app will require a new Face Check feature, demanding a video capture of your face before you gain access to your profile.

What is the Face Check?

This innovative step resembles the casual setup of Apple's Face ID but adds an extra layer of security. Tinder will utilize the video to verify that your facial data aligns with the pictures in your profile, and a small face badge will be generated for authenticity. Similar technology has already been tested in Canada and Colombia.

Safety and Privacy at the Forefront

Thanks to technology from FaceTec, your biometric data will be securely encrypted. While the video is discarded to maintain your privacy, this measure will help Tinder thwart duplicate accounts—an essential move in combating fake profiles and identity theft.

But that’s not all! Tinder's new Face Check is also a direct response to the rising threat of catfishing, where users disguise themselves to scam or harass others.
