In a shocking turn of events, three individuals have been arrested following a violent carjacking in Oshawa that left a man injured and triggered a dramatic police chase!

The incident unfolded late on the night of September 13, around 10:30 p.m., when a man parked his vehicle near Nonquon Road and Mary Street North. Suddenly, he was ambushed by three masked suspects who assaulted him and sped off in his car.

Thanks to incredible aerial footage from the police helicopter Air1, the unfolding drama was captured live. Officers monitored the stolen vehicle as it recklessly sped away, ignoring a traffic stop attempt. The chase reached a climax when the driver lost control, crashing into a field at Conlin Road and Anderson Street.

The suspects attempted to escape into a nearby greenspace but were quickly apprehended with the assistance of the helicopter. This incident marks the third violent carjacking in the Durham Region in just two weeks, highlighting Air1's crucial role in these rapid arrests.

Amid the chaos, a local resident called 911, reporting the victim’s desperate screams for help. The caller recounted, "I heard a guy yelling and screaming, 'Help me! Help me!' followed by a loud crash. I didn’t know what was happening!" This alarming account underscores the severity of the situation.

The victim, although injured, was treated at a local hospital and is expected to recover. In a concerning turn, one of the suspects was found carrying a large knife and an airsoft gun at the time of arrest.

The suspects include Jonathon Da Silva-Smith, 30, facing multiple serious charges including robbery with violence and possession of dangerous weapons; Cammie Gibbs, 19, from Scarborough, charged similarly; and Michael Mitov, 20, also from Scarborough, who faces robbery and possession charges.

All three have been held for bail hearings, as police urge anyone with more information or video footage to step forward and assist in the investigation!
