SPOILER ALERT: This article contains major spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “The White Lotus,” now streaming on Max.
Aimee Lou Wood is still grappling with the emotional weight of the finale of “The White Lotus.” During a recent cast panel, she became visibly emotional, nearly shedding tears as she spoke about a significant scene involving her character, Chelsea. “It felt incredibly real, which is such a strange experience,” Wood explained, recalling the heart-wrenching moment of Chelsea's death. “There were so many moments in that episode that made me sob right from the start.”
Cast members gathered for “The White Lotus at Four Seasons Presented by American Express,” an immersive event celebrating the conclusion of the famed series. Following the episode screening, several actors, including Leslie Bibb, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Jason Isaacs, engaged in a lively discussion moderated by Tan France from “Queer Eye.”
In a pivotal moment in the episode, Thapthimthong, who portrayed Gaitok, reflected on the decision to have his character shoot Rick while he was carrying Chelsea's body. “I hesitated at first about shooting him in the back,” he recalled, “but Mike White reassured me, saying, ‘Trust me, it will be justified.’ It truly was.”
Interestingly, Leslie Bibb, who plays one of the central characters, admitted to the audience that she didn't watch the finale episode at all. Wood, noticing Bibb’s reaction during the discussion, signaled her with an incredulous expression, saying, “It’s insane!”
Bibb expressed her initial concerns regarding her character's arc, admitting, “When I read the script, I worried, ‘Our storyline is a bit dull,’ especially in comparison to the more intense scenes.” Her comments drew gasps from the audience, leading her to clarify, “I meant compared to the wild plot twists!”
Despite her initial doubts, Bibb revealed that feedback from her co-stars shifted her perspective. One crew member even told her that the women-centric storyline was his favorite, which encouraged her and made her realize the connection audiences had with their arcs.
In a light-hearted moment, Jon Gries shared how much time he spent after Season 2 insisting that his character, Greg, was not responsible for Tanya’s (Jennifer Coolidge) death. "I spent so much energy trying to convince myself and others about my character's innocence," he laughed, revealing how he had convinced loved ones that he was filming a remake of “The Sand Pebbles” in the Philippines during production.
Nicholas Duvernay expressed satisfaction in seeing some closure for Tanya's story after three seasons, stating, “Finally getting a bit of justice for Tanya was amazing.” Meanwhile, Isaacs jokingly mused about the potential fallout of his character's actions, quipping, “The Ratliff wing at Duke University probably got taken down after everything!”
He then added, half-seriously, that wearing a Duke shirt again might cause more legal troubles, referencing his outfit at the panel discussion.
Patrick Schwarzenegger shared his experience of being put through the ringer by the women in his character's life, saying, “Those two girls and my brother really put me through it.” Isaacs quickly interjected with a chuckle, “There was some relief in it for sure!”
Sarah Catherine Hook humorously remarked on her character’s journey of self-discovery, hinting, “By the finale, I’m ready for her to embrace her wild side, so watch out!”
As the conversation continued, it became evident that the intricate storytelling and character development in “The White Lotus” will leave fans buzzing long after the final credits roll. The cast's reflections reveal just how invested they are in their characters, and with the series now concluded, many are left wondering what lies ahead for the talented ensemble.
