Norwegian Test Unveils Shocking Electric Vehicle Performance
In an electrifying test conducted by the Norwegian Automobile Association (NAF) in collaboration with Motor.no, Tesla models have outperformed their advertised ranges, setting a new standard for electric vehicles. Featuring 27 different electric cars, the results shed light on the impressive capabilities of the American brand, particularly its popular Model 3 and Model Y.
Tesla's Shockingly High Autonomy: The Numbers Don't Lie!
Leading the pack, the Tesla Model 3 dazzled with a staggering 729 km range, exceeding its official figure by 27 km. This stellar performance not only cements its position as the best performer in its price group, starting at €39,990, but also showcases Tesla's commitment to transparency and reliability. Not to be outdone, the recently revamped Model Y achieved an impressive 653 km, surpassing its official 586 km claim by a remarkable 67 km—an 11.4% improvement, the best in the test!
This stellar performance is reflected in the booming sales figures; Tesla registered 2,600 vehicles in Norway in May alone, marking a jaw-dropping 212.5% increase from the previous year. Enthusiastically, 2,346 of those were Model Ys and 253 were Model 3s, indicating a growing Norweigan love affair with Tesla's blend of affordability and proven range.
Other Contenders Make a Mark: BMW, Polestar, and More!
While Tesla emerged as the clear standout, other manufacturers also displayed impressive results. The BMW iX outshone expectations with a robust 695 km range compared to its announced 668 km. The Polestar Model 4 notched up 624 km, exceeding its official range by 24 km, while the pricier Polestar 3 fell short at 667 km, underperforming its expected 695 km.
Chinese entrants also held their ground, with the BYD Tang achieving 562 km—32 km more than anticipated. The newly released Sealion 7 surpassed expectations with a commendable 517 km range at a starting price of €46,990, and the Zeekr 7X, a recently launched SUV, impressed with an 8% variance, hitting 585 km.
A Mixed Bag for Lucid: Potential vs. Reality
Despite impressive figures, the Lucid Air Grand Touring claimed the highest raw range with an astonishing 832 km, yet this was still 130 km shy of its claimed 960 km—a 13% negative deviation, the largest of any tested vehicle. Interestingly, this luxury model, priced from €150,000, saw only one registration in Norway between January and May 2025, starkly contrasting its theoretical prowess.
As the electric vehicle market heats up, Tesla's remarkable performance puts it ahead of the curve, but other brands are proving they can keep pace. With innovation and competition on the rise, the future of electric vehicles looks brighter than ever!
