In a harrowing turn of events, Toronto police are hunting for multiple suspects following a vicious shooting that claimed one life and injured five others on Tuesday night.

The frightening incident unfolded around 8:40 p.m. near Flemington Road and Zachary Court, dangerously close to the bustling Yorkdale Mall. Authorities rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire.

Initial reports from police indicated that at least four people had been shot, but as the tragedy unfolded, that number escalated to five. Paramedics on the scene later disclosed that the toll could be as high as six victims.

Among those injured were four men and one woman, all of whom sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were transported to local hospitals for urgent care.

A Life Cut Short

Tragically, one man in his 40s was pronounced dead shortly before 10 p.m., leaving family and friends to grapple with the shocking news.

Duty Senior Officer Baheer Sarvanandan addressed reporters, emphasizing the complexity of the scene, as numerous officers worked diligently to ensure ambulances could swiftly evacuate victims.

“This is a very complex, large scene with many officers attending,” Sarvanandan noted. Thankfully, he reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety.

In the wake of this tragedy, Mayor Olivia Chow expressed her distress, labeling the incident as disturbing. Her heartfelt condolences were extended to the victims and their families, reflecting a collective mourning across the city.
