James Gunn's highly anticipated Superman film made waves at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where he unveiled an exclusive sneak peek that left attendees buzzing. However, the reaction from the DC Universe (DCU) fanbase was anything but uniform, as the footage showcased a notably vulnerable version of the iconic superhero, Kal-El, portrayed by David Corenswet.

In a scene set within the Fortress of Solitude, a bruised and battered Superman is rescued by his faithful canine companion, Krypto. The clip reveals Krypto dragging a nearly incapacitated Superman to a group of automatons designed to amplify the rays of the yellow sun, which are employed to heal the fallen hero. However, many fans found this portrayal troubling; one disgruntled viewer expressed their discontent on social media, saying, “James Gunn gets it, they said. He won’t make it a stupid comedy, they said. That was the worst Superman clip I have ever seen. It’s an utter joke, and it’s all about Krypto.”

This stark vulnerability marks a departure from previous portrayals, leading to comparisons with Zack Snyder's version of Superman, famously played by Henry Cavill. One viewer remarked, “Snyder’s Superman literally took a nuke at point-blank range and healed from the sun without feeling any pain from its radiation, which is accurate in the comics. Gunn’s mediocre interpretation is screaming in agony.”

Despite mixed reviews regarding Superman's new demeanor, the audience seemed to unanimously agree on one point: Krypto the Superdog steals the show. Fans lauded the comedic moments shared between Krypto and Superman, particularly his oblivious enthusiasm when he jumps on the injured hero. One fan shared, “As a dog owner, Krypto jumping on Superman all excited, not realizing it hurts, is too real for me lol.”

Notably, while the sneak peek divided opinion, audiences found levity in Krypto's antics. In a humorous twist, a fan joked about Krypto's unwarranted exuberance, writing, “'Fourteen fractured bones.' Thanks Krypto for 13 of those.”

The exclusive footage is also featured before screenings of "A Minecraft Movie," which is currently playing in theaters worldwide. As fans continue to debate this new vision of Superman, all eyes are on July 11, 2024, when Gunn’s interpretation of the legendary hero finally takes flight on the big screen. Will this film redefine the Man of Steel for a new generation, or will it be remembered as a missed opportunity? Only time will tell!
