Get Ready, Grey-Bruce! The Walk for Alzheimer’s Is Here!
This weekend, five vibrant communities in Grey-Bruce are gearing up for the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. It's not just a stroll; it’s a powerful movement to raise awareness and funds to support local families battling dementia.
Kincardine Joins the Fight!
In an exciting addition this year, Kincardine has joined the ranks alongside Hanover, Owen Sound, Saugeen Shores, and Thornbury. This expanded reach means more participants and a greater impact than ever before!
Michelle Fleming, the community development coordinator for the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce, expressed her enthusiasm. "It’s wonderful to extend our support services into Kincardine and engage with our community there," she said. The walk serves not only as a fundraiser but also as a chance for families to gather and celebrate hope.
A Cause Worth Walking For!
This annual event is the largest fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society, which currently supports over 1,100 families in Grey-Bruce. Last year's event raised a staggering $90,000, all destined to enhance support programs—everything from educational sessions to recreational activities.
This year, the goal is even higher: $100,000! With strong community support and an enthusiastic participation base, Fleming is optimistic about reaching this ambitious target.
The Growing Need for Support
Dementia doesn't discriminate, and with over 4,425 diagnosed individuals in Grey-Bruce, the demand for resources is on the rise. Projections suggest that by 2030, this number could exceed 6,700, making events like this even more crucial.
The walk is set to kick off bright and early on Saturday. Registration opens at 9 a.m., followed by inspiring opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. The walks will commence shortly thereafter, creating a wave of unity and purpose.
