Midwestern Ontario faced significant challenges during the morning commute on Tuesday, thanks to heavy lake effect snow that began falling late Monday afternoon and continued through the night. Areas particularly affected included Grey and Bruce counties, where slick and snow-covered roads created hazardous driving conditions.

Early Tuesday morning, Highway 21 experienced a major setback when a two-vehicle collision prompted the closure of the road between Bruce Road 25 and Bruce Road 40, just south of Port Elgin, at around 7:30 a.m. Local authorities, including South Bruce OPP, advised motorists to steer clear of the area as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Thankfully, the roadway has since been reopened.

In addition to the highway incident, several school buses in the Grey-Bruce and Huron-Perth regions faced cancellations and delays. If you're a parent or guardian, you can find the updated list of cancellations on the CKNX News Today website.

The good news? Conditions are expected to improve before the afternoon commute, according to forecasts from Environment Canada. Following the weather advisory that ended around 8:30 a.m., residents can anticipate clearer skies as the day progresses, but vigilance is still advised as road conditions may remain tricky.

Stay tuned for more updates and ensure your vehicle is prepared for winter weather as we head deeper into the snowy season!
