A Random Act of Violence in Broad Daylight

In a chilling incident that unfolded last week in north Edmonton, a man with a notorious history of violence has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal stabbing outside a Canadian Tire store.

The Disturbing Encounter

The attack took place on Thursday, August 28, in the Castle Downs area just as a 64-year-old shopper was packing his vehicle with purchases. Out of nowhere, a stranger approached him and stabbed him before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.

Serious Injuries and Quick Police Response

Emergency services rushed the victim to the hospital with serious injuries. Thankfully, police confirmed that the two men had no prior connection, categorizing the attack as completely unprovoked.

Swift Justice: Suspect Detained

Thanks to keen witnesses who provided detailed descriptions, authorities were able to track down the suspect just a few blocks away on an Edmonton Transit Service bus.

Nathan Piche: A Troubling Criminal Record

The suspect, Nathan Joshua Piche, 33, has a long rap sheet featuring numerous violent offenses. Most notably, he was previously convicted of manslaughter in a brutal stabbing incident in June 2018, which claimed the life of a 36-year-old man in an apartment building.

A Pattern of Violence and Lawlessness

Acting Inspector Eric Stewart of the Edmonton Police Service highlighted Piche's extensive history of violent behavior, dating back to 2008. He pointed out that Piche has repeatedly failed to comply with legal conditions, raising serious concerns about public safety.

Awaiting Justice

As of Wednesday, Piche is in police custody, awaiting a bail hearing. The Edmonton Police are collaborating with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service to advocate for his detention to protect the community.
