In a bizarre episode at Burnaby Mountain Golf Course in British Columbia, a 43-year-old golfer was arrested after a shocking altercation that involved him smashing a golf club over another player’s head. The incident, which occurred on October 12, generated quite the stir as it was captured on video and shared on social media.

According to Burnaby police, the intoxicated suspect became aggressive after an argument escalated. Eyewitnesses reported hearing heated exchanges before the altercation turned violent. In the footage, a golfer dressed in pink can be heard shouting, “You hit f—ing towards me,” which prompted the assault.

The confrontation began with some verbal back-and-forth, with another golfer, who was wearing a white hat, responding provocatively, “Do you want to f—ing toy with me?” He then raised his driver and struck the pink-shirted golfer, resulting in a loud thud that alarmed everyone nearby.

“Call the f—ing cops!” yelled another player as chaos ensued. As the situation became more intense, other players attempted to intervene. One golfer urged the assailant to drop the now damaged club, which had lost its head from the violent swing.

Fortunately, after lying on the ground for a short time, the victim managed to regain his composure and walk away without requiring medical attention. Police later confirmed that the intoxicated golfer was apprehended at the scene with no further incidents following the arrest.

The suspect faces serious charges, including assault with a weapon, and has been released pending a court date. Police confirmed that the victim sustained only minor injuries, and thankfully, the situation did not escalate to more grave consequences.

This shocking event marks the second violent incident involving golfers at Burnaby's courses in just four months. In June, police were called to another course, Riverway Golf Course, to break up a quarrel between two groups, reportedly sparked by one group almost hitting the other multiple times with their golf balls.

As Cpl. Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP stated, “It is unacceptable to engage in a physical altercation like this at a recreational facility. Luckily, there were no serious injuries this time.”

Golf, traditionally seen as a gentleman's game, is raising eyebrows with these recent outbursts. What happened to etiquette on the green?
