In a startling incident that unfolded in Carbonear on Friday night, authorities discovered a couple unconscious in a running vehicle still in gear, raising serious concerns over drug use and safety.

Police responded to reports of two individuals apparently passed out inside a car on Lemarchant Street. Upon arrival, officers found a man behind the wheel, completely unresponsive while the engine roared on.

Quick-thinking officers acted swiftly, shifting the vehicle into park and shutting off the engine. This prompted the 36-year-old driver to slowly regain consciousness. However, the situation escalated as he was subsequently arrested and transported to the hospital for blood tests to confirm potential drug impairment.

Meanwhile, his passenger, a 33-year-old woman from Bell Island, was taken into custody for violating the terms of her release order.
