In an alarming series of events, an 18-year-old man from Mississauga has been charged in relation to two violent carjackings that have sent shockwaves through the community.
According to Peel police, on January 16, a 72-year-old man was attacked in his own driveway near Airport Road and Morning Star Drive. The elderly victim was approached by two suspects who violently assaulted him and demanded his car keys. Luckily, the man sustained only minor injuries but was left shaken by the incident. The suspects fled the scene in the elderly man's vehicle. However, justice was quick to intervene, as police successfully located the stolen vehicle and apprehended one of the assailants after a foot chase. Unfortunately, the second suspect managed to escape.
Further investigations uncovered a chilling connection to another carjacking incident that occurred just a week earlier, on January 9, in the vicinity of Airport Road and Derry Road East. In that brutal event, four suspects ambushed a 75-year-old man in his driveway, assaulted him, and made off with his vehicle.
The arrested suspect, identified as Aqib Aqib, faces serious charges including two counts of robbery and two counts of disguise with intent. His alleged violent actions have sparked public concern over safety in the area, especially for vulnerable residents.
Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding the carjacking incidents, particularly about the suspect who remains on the run. Local authorities are determined to bring all those involved to justice and restore peace to the community.
As the investigation continues, many residents are left wondering: how safe is their neighborhood? This troubling trend of carjackings raises serious questions about security measures and the need for increased police presence in vulnerable areas.
