A recent scare at Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarborough has left the community on edge. On Tuesday afternoon, the school was placed on lockdown after reports of an individual carrying a firearm within the premises.

The alarm rang out just before noon, prompting a swift response from Toronto police. According to officials, a student spotted the individual with a weapon, leading to immediate safety precautions.

After a tense wait, the lockdown was officially lifted around 2:05 p.m. as the Toronto District School Board confirmed the situation was under control. Principal Nandanee Sawh informed parents in a letter outlining that students returning from lunch were directed to a safe evacuation site at Maryvale Public School.

"Our utmost priority is the safety of our students and staff," Principal Sawh emphasized. "We will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure their well-being." Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries during the incident.

Despite the calm, questions linger as the police conducted a thorough search of the school but did not locate any firearm. The hunt continues for the suspect, described as a five-foot-seven male with blonde hair, last seen in a blue shirt and black pants.

This unsettling event has sparked concerns about safety at schools, prompting calls for added vigilance and community support. Will authorities be able to track down the suspect before another incident occurs? Only time will tell.
