Say Goodbye to Radiotherapy Tattoos!
Breast cancer patients in Leeds can now rejoice, as a groundbreaking new technology promises to banish the need for permanent tattoo markings typically used in radiotherapy treatments. The innovative Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) system, introduced at the Leeds Cancer Centre, employs advanced surface imaging to ensure precise treatment without the unwanted ink.
A Game-Changer for Patients!
These five state-of-the-art machines, funded by the Leeds Hospitals Charity, are set to benefit an impressive 1,800 breast cancer patients each year. Leanne Dalby, one of the first women to experience this transformative technology, shared her relief at being able to wear her favorite summer outfits without the worry of revealing an unwanted tattoo. Diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer this year, Leanne was initially taken aback at the prospect of tattoos, as previously outlined in NHS materials.
A Legacy Reshaped!
Reflecting on her mother’s journey, who had undergone the same treatment 18 years ago and received tattoos, Leanne expressed her joy: "To learn I wouldn’t need tattoos was surprising and incredibly uplifting."
