Transforming Access to Life-Saving Screening

Exciting news for women in rural and Indigenous communities across Alberta! This June, two cutting-edge mobile units will revamp breast cancer screening, significantly enhancing accessibility for women who might otherwise struggle to get the care they need.

State-of-the-Art Technology on the Move

Equipped with the latest mammography technology, these new mobile units are set to replace outdated trailers that have been serving the province for over a decade. The first unit is already rolling through rural communities, while the second one will join its counterpart later this year.

A Commitment to Community Care

Thanks to funding from the Alberta Cancer Foundation and partnerships with the Grande Prairie Regional Health Foundation and Northern Lights Health Foundation, these units will be managed by Screen Test, a provincial screening initiative run by Alberta Health Services. The goal? To dramatically increase the number of women aged 45 to 74 receiving essential breast cancer screenings right in their own neighborhoods.

A Proven History of Impact

Since its inception in 1991, the screening program has conducted over 500,000 mammograms, identifying thousands of potential cancers. Annually, it serves around 120 Rural and Indigenous communities. With one in seven women in Alberta facing the threat of breast cancer in their lifetime, regular screenings are crucial for early detection and effective treatment.
