A Heartfelt Goodbye to Erika Marie Cameron
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of the vibrant Erika Marie Cameron (née Voerman), who left us on August 9, 2025, at the age of 39. Surrounded by loved ones, she departed peacefully at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton.
A Journey Through Life
Born on December 18, 1985, in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Erika was a beloved daughter to Lute and Yvonne Voerman. Growing up in Heatherton, she excelled in her studies at Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School before following her calling to nursing at NSCC Yarmouth, where she became a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Her dedication to helping others took her across Canada—from Antigonish to the remote lands of Nunavut, New Brunswick, and Alberta—specializing in hemodialysis care.
A Spirit Unfettered by Challenges
Despite facing a congenital heart defect throughout her life, Erika remained a beacon of joy and resilience. Her infectious spirit captivated those around her. Passionate about travel, gastronomy, sports, and shopping, she cherished every moment spent with family and friends, especially during beach days and camping adventures. Erika held a special bond with her younger cousins, Charlie and Jake, who brought her immense joy. Even in her passing, her generosity lives on through organ donations, embodying her compassionate nature.
Cherished Memories and Loving Family
Erika leaves behind a devoted husband, Jason Cameron, of nine years, along with her loving parents, sister Sandi Voerman of Calgary, and a wide circle of family including her niece Quincy, nephews Brier and Liam, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her loyal fur companion, Leo, also survives her.
Farewell Services and Tributes
A visitation for friends and family will take place on Sunday from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Heatherton, with Reverend Dennis Lamey leading the service. The ceremony will be recorded and made available for those unable to attend.
A Legacy That Will Last Forever
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity close to your heart. Their heartfelt gratitude goes out to all healthcare professionals who provided care to Erika, especially Dr. Michelle Murphy and the exemplary team at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
Though Erika has departed, her incredible light and warmth will forever illuminate the lives she touched.
