A devoted son, Don is survived by his mother, Effie Mae Snelgrove; his children, Jacob and Elise, alongside their mother, Lisa Davis; as well as his grandson, Dashiell. He also leaves behind his brother Derek and a host of nephews, including John Derek, Stephen, and Luke, all from Easley, South Carolina. Don's network of friends, including close companions Robert and Raelene Thomas, Harry Simms, and Anne Marie Lane, among many others, is a testament to his warmth and kindness. He was predeceased by his father, Jacob Parsons.

Passion for Cooking

One of the hallmarks of Don's life was his passion for cooking. He relished the art of preparing meals—a joy that he shared with family and friends. His legacy in the culinary world was cemented in the 1980s and 1990s when he hosted "30 Minute Menus," a beloved local cooking show that made its mark on community television. Not only did Don demystify cooking with his approachable style, but his holiday treats, particularly his famous Christmas puddings and cranberry sauce, became the talk of the town, highlighting his generous spirit.

Life Aboard the Sea

Beyond the kitchen, Don's heart beat for the sea. He found solace and adventure aboard his cherished sailboat, Galefilero, which symbolized his zest for life and exploration. The boat’s name, inspired by a Newfoundland English term meaning "a jaunt," captured his love for freedom and discovery. The motto he lived by, "Festina Lente," or "make haste slowly," reflected his unique approach to life—a blend of taking it easy while embracing every moment. His furry companion, Bosun the cat, was often by his side during these nautical exploits.

Community Involvement

A prominent figure in the Terra Nova Yacht Club, Don served as both Maintenance Chair and Commodore, forging lifelong friendships through his shared passion for sailing. His sense of belonging and community within the club enriched his life significantly.

Intellectual Pursuits and Professional Life

Beyond his personal pursuits, Don was a man of depth and intellect. His love for history, philosophy, and literature fueled many profound discussions that enriched the lives of those around him. Professionally, he devoted over 30 years to Parks Canada, where he made substantial contributions to the interpretive panels and exhibits across famous sites like Signal Hill and Cape Spear. His volunteer efforts extended to the St. John’s Airport and the Summit Centre in Mount Pearl, ensuring that local stories would endure for future generations.
