A notorious Quebec man with a troubling history in Toronto is now facing a staggering array of over 100 charges linked to a violent crime spree that included the stabbing of three men.

Carl Chateauvert, 34, was arrested following a dramatic incident on April 30, 2025, where he allegedly smashed the rear window of a parked vehicle in the busy Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue area, stealing valuable police-issued equipment.

Authorities have been hot on his trail since April 2024, when a series of motor vehicle thefts across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) caught their attention. It didn't take long for police to connect the dots to Chateauvert, who was considered the prime suspect in multiple thefts and other criminal activities.

After executing a search warrant on May 2, 2025, investigators uncovered stolen goods and identification from auto theft victims. In a troubling twist, Chateauvert allegedly used multiple aliases to elude capture and had a history of engaging in dangerous police pursuits throughout the downtown Toronto area.

Violent Stabbings Add to His Infamous Record

The situation took a more sinister turn when it was revealed that Chateauvert was responsible for three brutal stabbings between January and May 2025. The first two victims, aged 41 and 26, were attacked on January 29 in Scarborough’s Kingston Road and Galloway Road district—one of them suffered life-threatening injuries.

On May 1, another shocking incident occurred in Toronto’s Cabbagetown neighborhood, where Chateauvert stabbed and severely injured a 32-year-old man, who continues to fight for his life in the hospital.

A Long List of Charges

Chateauvert now faces a growing list of criminal offenses that include aggravated assault, 39 counts of failing to comply with a release order, multiple mischief charges, and several theft counts, summing to over 100 charges in total. Additionally, he is implicated in 28 offenses across various law enforcement agencies in the GTA and Quebec.

With court proceedings set for Tuesday in Toronto, investigators are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to his alleged crimes to come forward. They have also released a photo of Chateauvert, hoping to gather more information as this chilling story continues to unfold.
