In a chilling event that rattled a quiet neighborhood, gunfire erupted at a home in Abbotsford, B.C., early this morning, leaving residents in profound shock.

A Frightening Awakening

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on Balfour Drive, with neighbors describing the sounds as terrifying. One resident, Lovele Gill, recounted, "We just heard really loud noise. And it was terrifying because it was extremely loud." Another neighbor, Seanna Koopmans, initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks, stating, "I’ve never heard gunshots before... then I heard the car speeding away, and kind of guessed what had happened."

Fortunate Escape for Residents

Fortunately, the family inside the targeted home was asleep when the bullets started flying. According to Abbotsford Police Sgt. Paul Walker, they woke up to the distressing sound of multiple rounds hitting their house. Though shaken, they escaped unharmed. Walker expressed concern for the family’s emotional well-being, noting, "They were extremely concerned, extremely fearful, and I can only imagine what they’re dealing with today in the aftermath."

Motive Under Investigation

Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the shooting, but have dismissed any possible gang connections. Walker indicated there was no immediate evidence linking the incident to ongoing extortion threats, but assured the public that all potential leads are being explored. "This is a residence that does not scream 'police contact.' It’s something that we’re trying to figure out why they were targeted," he explained.

Community in Shock

Neighbors expressed their disbelief—Allan Goodfellow noted, "This is normally a very quiet neighborhood. Nothing like this has happened in like, 12 years that I know of in the area." Koopmans echoed these concerns, emphasizing the impact on local children: "There’s kids that ride their bikes up and down the street. I don’t want kids in the street to be affected negatively."

Call for Witnesses

Police are seeking information regarding a dark-colored sedan seen in the area at the time of the incident. They urge anyone who was near Balfour Drive or along Clearbrook Road between Downes Road and Maclure Road—specifically between 1:45 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.—to contact Abbotsford police at 604-859-5225. Every piece of information is crucial to uncovering the motive and ensuring the safety of the community.
