The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on Balfour Drive, with neighbors describing the sounds as terrifying. One resident, Lovele Gill, recounted, "We just heard really loud noise. And it was terrifying because it was extremely loud." Another neighbor, Seanna Koopmans, initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks, stating, "I’ve never heard gunshots before... then I heard the car speeding away, and kind of guessed what had happened."

Fortunate Escape for Residents

Fortunately, the family inside the targeted home was asleep when the bullets started flying. According to Abbotsford Police Sgt. Paul Walker, they woke up to the distressing sound of multiple rounds hitting their house. Though shaken, they escaped unharmed. Walker expressed concern for the family’s emotional well-being, noting, "They were extremely concerned, extremely fearful, and I can only imagine what they’re dealing with today in the aftermath."

"This is a residence that does not scream 'police contact.' It’s something that we’re trying to figure out why they were targeted," he explained.

Neighbors expressed their disbelief—Allan Goodfellow noted, "This is normally a very quiet neighborhood. Nothing like this has happened in like, 12 years that I know of in the area." Koopmans echoed these concerns, emphasizing the impact on local children: "There’s kids that ride their bikes up and down the street. I don’t want kids in the street to be affected negatively."
