Metro Vancouver Weather Alert: Brace for Heavy Rain and Early Snowfall!

Metro Vancouver residents should prepare for a wet and potentially snowy weekend as a significant storm approaches the region. According to Environment Canada meteorologist Trevor Smith, moisture will begin to sweep into the area starting Saturday morning, November 16, and is expected to continue through the night.

Smith indicated that the weather office may issue a rainfall warning, with projections of up to 50 mm of precipitation falling within 24 hours. While this is not a repeat of the atmospheric river events experienced last month, residents can expect heavy rainfall at times.

Before the storm hits, Friday night’s weather forecast shows a 30 percent chance of light drizzle, although generally dry conditions are anticipated.

As for the mountains, the North Shore could see the first significant snowfall of the season, with forecasts estimating at least 30 cm accumulating during the storm. Higher elevations, such as Simon Fraser University, may also experience some wet flakes, adding to the seasonal atmosphere.

On the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Whistler Village is preparing for 5 to 10 cm of snowfall, marking the ski resort's first major snow event of the year. Smith cautioned that there could even be a snowfall warning issued for these areas.

As the storm gradually subsides on Sunday, brief showers might persist, carrying through into the following week. A second storm is already predicted to arrive on Tuesday, ensuring that the region remains under the influence of active weather.

For now, residents are advised to remain vigilant as this weekend’s storm approaches. Although it won't reach the intense rainfall levels of last month’s atmospheric river, the expected precipitation will certainly make a splash. Locals are encouraged to take necessary precautions, especially if traveling in high-elevation areas.
