Urgent Warning Issued by Alberta Health Services!
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has launched a public health alert after a passenger onboard an Edmonton-bound flight tested positive for measles. This alarming news surfaces as health officials aim to prevent any potential outbreaks.
Flight Details: Where and When!
The individual in question traveled on Air Canada Flight 173, which departed from Pearson International Airport in Toronto on September 10. The flight took off at 3:44 PM and landed at Edmonton International Airport at 7:30 PM.
Possible Exposure Zone: Are You at Risk?
AHS has identified a possible exposure window at the Edmonton airport, specifically in the domestic terminal at Gate D62 and the baggage claim area from 7:30 PM to 10:15 PM. If you were in these locations during this time, you may want to take extra precautions.
Who Needs to Be Concerned?
Anyone who was on the flight or present in the designated areas and was born in or after 1970, holding fewer than two documented doses of the measles vaccine, should be on high alert. That’s a significant warning for many!
Watch for Symptoms: What to Look Out For!
AHS strongly advises individuals who fit the risk criteria to monitor for any symptoms of measles, including:
• A fever at or above 38.3°C
• Cough, runny nose, and/or red eyes
• A characteristic rash that typically appears 3 to 7 days after the fever onset, starting behind the ears and on the face before spreading across the body and down to the limbs. The rash may appear red and blotchy on lighter skin, while on darker skin tones it might look purple or less visible.
Measles Cases on the Rise!
Throughout Alberta, a staggering 1,890 cases of measles have been recorded since March 2025, with officials stating that three cases are currently known to be communicable. This emphasizes the importance of vigilance and keeping immunization records up to date.
Stay Informed and Safe!
As this situation develops, it is crucial for the community to remain informed. Make sure to review your vaccination status and stay updated on potential health alerts from AHS. Your health is your wealth!
