Major Training Camp Cuts Shake Up NHL Teams Ahead of Preseason

As the first week of preseason action comes to a close, NHL teams are stepping up their roster decisions, leading to a flurry of training camp cuts. On Thursday alone, seven teams made significant roster adjustments, and fans can expect to see even more changes rolling in over the weekend. With many junior-eligible players now back with their CHL teams, organizations are seizing the opportunity to assign players to the AHL and to place some on waivers.

Training Camp Cuts and Assignments

Here’s the rundown of all the training camp cuts and assignments made as of Friday:

Anaheim Ducks

- Forward Carey Terrance has been assigned to OHL Erie.

Calgary Flames

- The Flames have moved a total of six players to AHL Calgary: forwards Alex Gallant, Trevor Janicke, Rory Kerins, Ilya Nikolayev, and David Silye, along with goaltender Connor Murphy. Defenseman Zayne Parekh has been assigned to the OHL's Saginaw Spirit. Additionally, goaltender Matt Radomsky has also joined AHL Calgary.

Columbus Blue Jackets

- Forwards Jake Gaudet, Stefan Matteau, and Justin Pearson are heading to AHL Cleveland, along with defenseman Stanislav Svozil who has been loaned to the same team.

Florida Panthers

- Goaltenders Kenneth Appleby and Evan Cormier have been released from their Professional Tryout Agreements, now assigned to AHL Charlotte.

New York Rangers

- Goaltender Talyn Boyko will be playing for AHL Hartford.

Ottawa Senators

- A massive move by the Senators has seen ten players assigned to AHL Belleville, including forwards Wyatt Bongiovanni, Tyler Boucher, Xavier Bourgault, Jake Chiasson, Angus Crookshank, Phillippe Daoust, Stephen Halliday, and Oskar Pettersson, plus defensemen Jorian Donovan and Tomas Hamara. Goalie Michael Simpson rounds out the list for Belleville, along with forward Keean Washkurak, who was released from his PTO.

Philadelphia Flyers

- The Flyers sent forwards Jon-Randall Avon, Elliot Desnoyers, Brendan Furry, Jacob Gaucher, and Massimo Rizzo to AHL Lehigh Valley.

Pittsburgh Penguins

- The Penguins released defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov from his PTO.

San Jose Sharks

- A group of players including defensemen Artem Guryev, Braden Haché, Valtteri Pulli, and Joey Keane, along with forwards Mitchell Russell, Lucas Vanroboys, and Anthony Vincent have been assigned to AHL San Jose.

Seattle Kraken

- The Kraken have sent several prospects to AHL Coachella Valley including forwards Jagger Firkus, David Goyette, Ian McKinnon, Logan Morrison, and Tucker Robertson, along with goalies Jack LaFontaine and Victor Ostman, and defenseman Ty Nelson.
