A fierce thunderstorm swept across the Avalon Peninsula last night, bringing with it more than just a light show.
Communities in Trinity Bay, including Job’s Cove, Old Perlican, Bay de Verde, Grates Cove, Ochre Pit Cove, and Red Head Cove, are currently in the dark after lightning struck critical infrastructure.
Since approximately 8:00 PM, residents have been left without electricity, and utility officials estimate that power won't be restored until around suppertime today.
The storm's aftermath has posed significant challenges for repair crews, as the remote locations make it difficult to access the damaged sites. Experts are on standby, prepared to deploy specialized equipment necessary for the repairs, which will involve replacing poles knocked down by the lightning.
Residents are advised to prepare for a longer outage and stay tuned for updates as crews work tirelessly to restore power.
