Lando Norris has shared his reflections on the "difficult days" he endured with McLaren following his late-race crash with teammate Oscar Piastri during the Canadian Grand Prix.

In a dramatic incident on Lap 66, Norris misjudged a maneuver and clipped the rear of Piastri’s car, effectively ending his own race while allowing the Australian to bolster his lead in the championship standings.

This collision marked the first on-track incident between the two teammates, and Norris quickly took responsibility, acknowledging the breach of McLaren’s internal racing protocols known as the 'Papaya rules.'

In the aftermath, both Norris and the McLaren leadership, including Andrea Stella and Zak Brown, had to engage in some tough discussions. However, Norris believes that the challenging conversations ultimately yielded positive outcomes.

"We’ve had a lot of discussions that gave a clearer understanding on all sides," Norris told reporters, including those from RacingNews365. "I admitted immediately that I misjudged the situation, which made for some less-than-pleasant discussions, but necessary ones. It's not just about me, it's about our team’s overall performance. We all respect our top rule, and through these conversations, we identified some constructive points that can benefit us moving forward."

Despite the unfortunate incident, Norris noted that the team has emerged stronger, learning vital lessons that could enhance their future performances. "Surprisingly, many aspects have improved after this bad situation, which is a silver lining I didn’t expect," he said.

He emphasized how the crash affected him personally, feeling a deep sense of regret as it involved his teammate. "I felt really bad for the team and my fellow members, and that made these past few days quite tough for me," he admitted. "However, I’m working on handling these moments better and quickly communicating with Andrea and Zak to move forward, which is vital for our team’s spirit."
