A Final Call to Gamers Everywhere!
Attention, gaming enthusiasts! An iconic independent retro arcade in Salisbury is on the brink of closing indefinitely, and your help is needed!
The Heart of Salisbury's Retro Gaming Scene
Highest Score, Salisbury's only pinball venue, was shut down last month due to overwhelming costs and dwindling visitors. Owner James Petherick is making a passionate plea for support during two crucial open days on July 11 and 12.
"This weekend is all about showcasing the incredible potential that emerges when a community unites. If there has ever been a moment to step in and show your support, it’s now!" Petherick exclaimed.
The Arcade's Rich History and Cultural Impact
Nestled in the Cross Keys Shopping Centre, this retro haven opened its doors in August 2024, featuring a meticulously restored assortment of classic pinball and gaming machines. Petherick passionately stated, "When I announced the closure, the community's reaction was a unanimous 'We can't afford to lose this!'"
He noted that three generations of locals have never had the chance to engage with an authentic pinball machine, emphasizing that he founded Highest Score to revive true, hands-on gaming experiences in Salisbury.
Help Shatter the Silence of Closure!
These open days are more than just an event; they are a rallying cry to show that independent businesses can thrive with communal backing. Everyone from ages eight to eighty is welcome, with games available for all!
Entry is a mere £1 donation for unlimited playtime, and an online donation page is established for those who wish to contribute to the arcade's survival.
"If I can gather enough funds over these two days, I can keep the lights on for at least another week, and hopefully, we can extend our operation into the summer holidays and beyond," Petherick added hopefully.
Don’t Let This Unique Experience Slip Away!
This is a crucial moment for the gaming community to come together and save a cherished piece of Salisbury’s culture. Mark your calendars for July 11 and 12, and let’s keep the spirit of retro gaming alive!
