In an electrifying showdown at UFC Shanghai, Johnny Walker stunned the crowd and naysayers alike. As a considerable underdog against rising star Zhang Mingyang—especially following two back-to-back knockout losses—Walker flipped the narrative with a TKO in the second round.

Initial attempts at a surprise takedown were thwarted by Mingyang, who quickly reversed the situation. However, Walker's strategic adjustments led to a well-timed calf kick that signaled the beginning of his comeback.

"I’ve been battling top 10 fighters for years, and they’re trained killers. I’m a trained killer too. We all can get hurt and knocked out in this sport," Walker declared passionately in the UFC post-fight show. "This was an emotional fight for both of us. We know the grind it takes to compete at this level—it’s the toughest job in the world."

With his brother, Valter Walker, in his corner, Johnny felt a wave of emotion after ending a frustrating three-fight winless streak. His training at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas filled him with confidence, yet the 14-month layoff left him cautious about his performance.

"I feel great, but I need a bit more time to fully unleash my skills," he confessed. "After a long break, I felt a bit shy and not fully trusting. That's why I hugged him after knocking him down. My takedown wasn’t quite effective. After some time, I started to find my rhythm in the second round, feeling like it was time to ramp up my game's intensity."

"He landed some good shots, and I took a few seconds to recover—they were clean hits. But I survived! I’ve got a chin, baby! This is what I love to do," he exclaimed with excitement.

Having secured his first win since May 2023, when he defeated Anthony Smith, Walker now boasts an 8-6 UFC record, with six of those victories coming by knockout. As he revels in this victory, Walker expressed uncertainty about his next opponent, stating, "I was entirely focused on this Chinese guy. Rankings don't matter to me. Whatever matchmakers decide, I'm ready for it!"
