Celebrating Excellence in Young Minds

In an inspiring recognition of academic achievement, twenty outstanding high school students have been honored by the provincial government for their excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This prestigious acknowledgment comes as part of the 2025 Research Inspired Student Enrichment Awards, announced on Friday in St. John's.

Sophia Zhang: A Future Innovator

Among the celebrated talents is Sophia Zhang, an ambitious 11th grader from Holy Heart. Sophia will participate in a transformative program at the Boston Leadership Institute this summer, designed to supercharge her STEM skills.

A Passion for Making a Difference

Sophia is thrilled about this incredible opportunity, even though she's still narrowing down her specific career path. With a keen interest in electrical and mechanical engineering, she aims to contribute to innovative solutions for pressing global challenges. "I want to make the world a better place," she shares, highlighting her aspirations to tackle issues like climate change and promote renewable energy.

A Step Towards a Bright Future

This summer, as students like Sophia immerse themselves in these enrichment programs—two located in Massachusetts and one in Toronto—they'll gain invaluable skills and insights that could pave the way for the next generation of STEM leaders. The future looks bright for these young innovators!
