In a tragic turn of events, a 12-year-old boy lost his life in a horrifying crash north of Shawnigan Lake on Monday evening. The young boy was rollerblading with his father and brother when a northbound Honda Civic veered out of control around 8:30 PM, striking him before smashing into a nearby telephone pole.

According to the RCMP, the incident occurred in the 4100 block of Hillbank Road. Cpl. Alex Bérubé, speaking to CHEK News, confirmed the devastating news: "Unfortunately, the 12-year-old youth did not survive." The two teenagers in the car, one driving and one as a passenger, are both 17 years old and remained at the scene before being rushed to the hospital for minor injuries.

While police do not believe alcohol was a factor, they suspect that speed played a significant role in this tragic collision. Bérubé expressed the sorrow felt by the tight-knit community, stating, "It’s a very tragic incident.
