In the early hours of August 9th, a mother’s worst fear became reality when Angie Carter received the devastating news that her 23-year-old son, Seth, had died in a tragic car accident.
"It’s a knock on the door no parent ever wants to get at 3:30 a.m.," Angie recalled, her voice heavy with sorrow.
Just the weekend before, Seth had moved in with a friend, full of hope and excitement. But on the night of the crash, he was driving home from a coworker’s house around 1:30 a.m. when disaster struck.
A car was barreling toward him on the wrong side of the Anthony Henday, making visibility nearly impossible. "From comments I've seen, her lights blended with the oncoming traffic, making it hard for Seth to see her," Angie explained. In a split second, Seth swerved to avoid a collision but lost control of his vehicle.
His car crashed into a light pole, erupting into flames. Despite the efforts of witnesses who pulled him from the wreckage and tried to save him, Seth succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Authorities later apprehended 23-year-old Kadie Sinclair, the driver of the other vehicle, nearly seven kilometers from the crash site, facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving.
Reflecting on her loss, Angie shared, "Some days I can’t believe it’s real, other days I'm just mad or sad, sometimes numb. We could play the what-if game all day, but it wouldn't change anything."
Seth was not just a son; he was Angie’s best friend. Their bond was built on shared adventures, from mountain hiking trips to longboarding together. He was passionate about his plumbing career and left behind three younger sisters who adored him.
"He had a great sense of humor, always bringing laughter into our home," Angie reminisced.
In the wake of the tragedy, Angie’s sister-in-law initiated a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses, raising over $11,000 in a remarkable outpouring of support. Now, Angie hopes to channel that generosity into a larger mission.
In honor of Seth, she urges others to contribute to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada), emphasizing the importance of making responsible choices: "If you need a ride home, just ask. Don’t risk it; it’s not worth your life.”
