In a gripping trial that has sent shockwaves through Calgary, the haunting story of one victim of serial rape suspect Richard Robert Mantha has emerged, revealing the horror she endured.

This week in court, a chilling police statement given by the woman, who has sadly passed away, came to light. The testimony, recorded two years ago, unveils the terrifying moment she awoke in a Quonset with Mantha beside her, a sex toy in hand.

"I didn’t think anybody cared," she reflected in her statement to Staff Sgt. Shelby Stewart, recalling the ominous events of a night that changed her life forever.

The woman recounted leaving a friend's home in Forest Lawn just before dawn, only to be approached by Mantha, who offered her a ride. Eager to reach the Franklin LRT station, she was deceived by his appearance, describing him as "harmless." But the nightmare was just beginning.

During the ride, Mantha offered her a Sprite that she believed was safe. "It looked like it hadn’t been opened at all," she stated, before taking a few large sips—after which her memory faded.

When she regained consciousness, she found herself in an RV, shocking both herself and Mantha. Alarmingly, she noticed her pants had been removed, and after hearing a vibrating sound, she realized the gravity of the situation.

"He had a gun on the table and told me to shut up or he was gonna shoot me in the face," she recalled. However, sharp-eyed and courageous, she recognized the weapon was actually an Airsoft gun, which empowered her to fight back.

In an act of defiance, she kicked him in the chest, seized a nearby weapon, and threatened to stab him unless he took her back to safety. But the struggle did not end there; despite her bravery, he ultimately threw her out of his truck.

This trial is not just a legal proceeding—it's a chilling reminder of the vulnerability many face and the importance of believing survivors. As the case unfolds, the echoes of this tragic ordeal resonate deeply within the community, amplifying the urgent need for justice.
