Groundbreaking Virtual Emergency Room Now Operational at Green Bay Health Centre

In a significant move to enhance emergency care accessibility, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services has announced that the Green Bay Health Centre in Springdale will operate a Virtual Emergency Room (ER) during critical hours. This groundbreaking initiative is set to take place from Wednesday, November 6 at 8:00 p.m. until Thursday, November 7 at 8:00 a.m.

What is a Virtual ER?

Virtual ERs are designed to provide continuous emergency care, ensuring that local emergency departments can meet the health needs of residents 24/7. During the operational hours, individuals seeking emergency services can still report to the ER at Green Bay Health Centre as if they were visiting a traditional emergency room. They will find a health-care professional on-site, while a physician or nurse practitioner will be available to assist via video technology. This innovative approach is intended to deliver the same level of care that patients expect in an in-person setting.

Additional Services Available

For residents of Central Newfoundland facing non-emergency medical issues without a family physician, NL Health Services' Health Hub is available. Open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and weekends from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the Health Hub provides essential healthcare support, with hours depending on the availability of physicians. Residents can reach out to the Gander Medical Clinic at 709-381-0112 or the Killick Clinic in Grand Falls-Windsor at 709-292-8404 for assistance, though it is important to note increased wait times may be expected.

For additional support, the 811 HealthLine remains at your service 24/7, offering medical advice, health information, and assistance during mental health crises. This service also accommodates virtual nurse practitioner appointments, typically within a three-day timeframe.
