Clooney Stands Up for His Beliefs

In a recent interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, actor George Clooney opened up about his decision to speak out against President Joe Biden in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. While some fans may not approve, Clooney believes his stance was not just brave, but a responsibility.

Defending Free Speech

Clooney, a Democrat from Kentucky, emphasized the importance of free speech. "When I see people not being truthful on my side, I felt it was necessary to speak up," he explained. He acknowledged the backlash he faces, mirroring critiques he has endured throughout his career, but he remains committed to defending his beliefs.

A Shocking Op-Ed

Clooney stirred controversy on July 10 when he penned an op-ed for The New York Times urging Biden to step aside after a lackluster performance in the first presidential debate against Donald Trump. This plea came just weeks after Clooney co-hosted a massive Hollywood fundraiser for Biden that raised an astonishing $28 million.

In his article, Clooney lamented, "The Joe Biden I supported three weeks ago is not the same man we saw at the debate. The reality is age has caught up with him, and this could jeopardize our chances in November, potentially costing us the House and Senate as well."

A Selfless Act

After Biden announced he would step down as the Democratic nominee, Clooney praised the decision as a noble act for democracy. He publicly endorsed Kamala Harris, stating that Biden had made the most selfless choice in leadership since George Washington.

"Letting go of power is incredibly difficult, especially in today's political climate. For him to recognize a better path forward deserves immense credit," Clooney said.
