Gang Conflict Escalates: Suspected Hitman Killed in Langley Incident

2024-09-24

In a shocking development that raises serious concerns about gang violence in British Columbia, a suspected gunman was shot dead in Langley, while a noted gangster was seriously injured during a violent exchange. The incident has prompted investigations into potential links to organized crime.

Johnathan Hebrada-Walters, a 38-year-old man from Edmonton, died in the gunfire that erupted around 6 p.m. on September 21 on 84th Avenue, close to 196 Street. Reports indicate that he may have been involved as a hired hitman. His death coincides with ongoing tensions in the local gang landscape.

The other man involved in the incident, identified as Barinder "Shrek" Dhaliwal, a prominent member of the Brothers Keepers criminal group, was struck twice but managed to escape in a black SUV. He was later stopped by police on 208th Street and was taken to the hospital with injuries that are fortunately not life-threatening. Dhaliwal's prior involvement with gangs has made him a known target, especially since both of his brothers were murdered in separate shooting incidents in the past two years.

Law enforcement is currently investigating Hebrada-Walters’ background to ascertain his connections to organized crime. Court records imply that he had a troubling past, including multiple convictions for firearms and drug offenses across various provinces in Canada.

Hebrada-Walters' most recent conviction occurred in January 2018 in Manitoba. He was implicated in a traffic stop that led to the discovery of a Glock .45 caliber handgun in the vehicle, along with additional firearms. His legal troubles extended to Saskatchewan as well, where in 2012 he was convicted of cocaine possession. This was linked to an incident where he was reportedly aggressive towards women in a vehicle before police intervened and uncovered significant quantities of drugs.

As police look deeper into the circumstances surrounding his death, they are also examining the possibility that this gang-related shooting was part of a larger conflict, considering the violent history involving Dhaliwal and his associates. The escalation of gang violence in the region has raised alarms for community safety and law enforcement officials alike.

This incident marks yet another chapter in British Columbia’s ongoing battle against gang violence, underscoring the perilous and often deadly rivalry that characterizes organized crime in the region. The community remains on edge as investigations continue and law enforcement works to prevent further bloodshed.
