This week, the energy market has seen a slight upheaval, particularly for diesel and home heating fuels, while gas prices have barely budged.
Gasoline prices have dipped marginally, dropping by less than half a cent. In contrast, diesel fuel has seen a noticeable increase, rising by just over 2 cents across the island and in Labrador West. This uptick can be attributed to various factors, including supply chain issues and seasonal demand fluctuations that have impacted fuel distribution.
Additionally, home heating needs are feeling the pinch; furnace oil has risen by almost 2 cents per liter—a significant change particularly as colder months approach. Stove oil prices have also surged, increasing by more than a cent and a half on the island and around 2 cents in Labrador West.
Interestingly, propane prices have remained largely stable, with only a minor decrease of less than half a cent. Experts suggest that the fluctuating prices of these fuels could be influenced by geopolitical tensions and changes in crude oil prices on the global market.
For homeowners and businesses relying on heating fuels, these changes come at a crucial time as winter draws closer, making budgeting for energy costs more critical than ever. It’s advisable for consumers to keep an eye on these trends, as further changes could be on the horizon in the weeks ahead.
