As Summer Fades, Creativity Takes Center Stage

As summer departs, Winkler Arts and Culture (WA+C) is gearing up for a vibrant fall filled with creativity, connection, and community spirit. With a lineup of innovative after-school art classes, welcoming newcomer gatherings, and fresh exhibits, this season promises to be one of the busiest and most exhilarating yet at the local gallery.

Limited Spots for After-School Art Classes!

Registration is now open for two after-school art classes that are already filling up quickly! Jered Hildebrand, the Director of WA+C, urges parents to enroll their children soon to secure one of the limited spots. "If you haven’t signed up yet, now is definitely the time," Hildebrand emphasized. "We usually only have about 10 seats per class to ensure a personal and enjoyable experience for everyone."

Get Creative with Texture Exploration!

The first painted adventure kicks off with 'Texture Exploration' on September 10, running Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. for ages 9 to 13. This course fuses traditional painting with innovative methods. "This isn’t your average painting class. We’re incorporating all sorts of materials into our paint—tools you wouldn’t normally use in art," explained Hildebrand. "Art knows no boundaries, so we’re free to experiment and create as we go!"

Mixed Media Masterpieces Await!

The second class, 'Mixed Media', offers young artists the chance to blend various materials into one unique creation. "Mixed media is all about combining different mediums—painting, clay, and other unexpected materials," Hildebrand shared. "The result? A one-of-a-kind piece that showcases their creativity!"

Building Bonds Through Art and Community

These programs do more than teach technique; they foster lasting friendships. "Winkler is known for its sports culture, but we’re carving out a creative niche for our young artists," Hildebrand stated. "Some students return year after year, forming lifelong connections through art. Many of our sports enthusiasts also have a passion for art, creating a wonderful blend of interests here."

Welcome Evenings: A Social Hub for Newcomers

WA+C continues its dedication to community through the monthly Newcomer Welcome Evening, in partnership with Regional Connections. The next event on September 17 offers newcomers—whether to Winkler, Manitoba, or even Canada—a chance to meet people and learn about their new home. "It’s a great way for individuals to build connections and leave with new knowledge about Winkler," Hildebrand noted.

Exciting New Exhibits Coming Your Way!

This fall, the gallery is set to unveil fresh exhibits, following the conclusion of the 'Faces of Winkler' showcase. Up next is the highly anticipated 'Peer-to-Peer' exhibit from the gallery in Carman, touring throughout the Pembina Valley.

Don't Miss the Manitoba Showcase!

Highlighting the season is the Manitoba Showcase, running from September 18 to 20. This exciting event will feature artists, workshops, and performances across Winkler. "We’re thrilled to host it here for the first time," Hildebrand expressed. "There will be exhibitions, networking opportunities, and live performances, making it a valuable resource for both art promoters and individual artists!"

The Adventure is Just Beginning!

With September just around the corner, Hildebrand assures that this is merely the beginning. "We have so much planned, and much of it is launching this month. We’re adding the final touches on everything, and we can’t wait to share it with the community!"
