Dwayne Johnson's Inspiration from 'Oppenheimer'

Dwayne Johnson has recently revealed that his experience watching Christopher Nolan's acclaimed film "Oppenheimer" in an IMAX theater has significantly influenced his approach to his upcoming holiday action movie, "Red One." Johnson, who is set to portray a significant role in the film, was dazzled by the stunning visuals and immersive sound design of Nolan's film, prompting him to strive for a similarly impressive presentation for "Red One."

Excitement for 'Red One'

During a recent interview with IMAX, Johnson shared his excitement: "With 'Red One,' our intention was to create a movie that audiences can truly enjoy on the largest screens available. IMAX technology takes cinema to another level." He described his experience watching "Oppenheimer" in the very seat used by Nolan himself, stating, “I was midway through shooting 'Red One' and had the amazing opportunity to see 'Oppenheimer' in the special IMAX theater where Chris and Emma Thomas, his wife, screen their films. I even requested to sit where Chris does!”

Impact of 'Oppenheimer' on Johnson's Vision

The exhilarating visuals of "Oppenheimer" led Johnson to text his director, Jake Kasdan, with a photo of the screen and the humorous caption, "Holy sh*t. 'Red One' on this screen with this technology could be game over."

Challenges Facing 'Red One'

However, while Johnson harbors high hopes for "Red One," the film's reception thus far has been less than stellar. Unlike "Oppenheimer," which has taken the box office by storm, earning nearly $1 billion worldwide and securing multiple Academy Awards, "Red One" hasn't made a comparable impact. With a reported budget of $250 million, the movie only grossed $26 million internationally during its opening weekend. As it prepares for its U.S. release on November 15, projections indicate a modest opening weekend expected to earn around $20 million.

Critics' Reception of 'Red One'

Critics' reviews have not been kind, with Variety’s Owen Gleiberman expressing disdain for the film, stating, “I’m not sure that a Hollywood movie has ever kicked off the season with less true Christmas spirit.
