The drama unfolded just before 8 p.m. when officers received a report of a vehicle that had veered off the road and into a ditch on Asphodel 3rd Line. Responding quickly, the OPP arrived at the scene to find a disoriented driver.

Upon speaking with the driver, they suspected alcohol played a significant role in the wreck. The individual was promptly arrested and taken to the OPP detachment for further tests to confirm their level of impairment.

The accused, identified as James Bird from Hastings, faces multiple serious charges, including operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs, exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit, and driving without a currently validated permit.
