In a stunning turn of events, police in York Region have unveiled a pulse-pounding video capturing the moment two suspects were apprehended following a brazen jewelry store robbery in Richmond Hill, alongside a series of home invasions in both Markham and Hamilton.

Caught on Camera: The Arrest!

The video, shot from a police helicopter, shows the suspects casually strolling back to their getaway car in a parking lot. But the calm quickly dissipates as unmarked police cruisers swoop in, cutting off their escape.

In an intense standoff, officers dressed in tactical gear converged on the scene with firearms drawn, leaving the suspects no option but to try and reverse their vehicle in a desperate bid for freedom. The situation escalates as one officer is seen smashing the car’s windows, leading to the dramatic extraction of one suspect from the vehicle.

Meet the Suspects!

York Regional Police have identified one of the captured suspects as 19-year-old Aaron Simms from Ajax. The second suspect, a 16-year-old boy, remains unnamed due to legal protections under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The Crime Wave Uncovered!

Authorities believe that Simms and his accomplice were involved not just in the jewelry heist at Hillcrest Mall—where they allegedly unleashed an aerosol irritant on employees before smashing display cases—but also in a home invasion spree on the same day that targeted locations in Markham and Hamilton.

Facing Serious Charges!

Both suspects are facing a mountain of charges: 13 to be precise, including three counts each of robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent, and possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000. Additionally, Simms has been charged with violating probation, while the teen faces charges for not complying with a previous release order.

Ongoing Investigation!

At the time of their arrests, police revealed that Simms was already on probation for unrelated offenses, while the boy was out on bail for other matters.
