Dog Rescue Center Reopens After Battling Parvovirus Outbreak – Help Find Our Dogs Forever Homes!

2024-09-28

In a heartwarming turn of events, Dogs Trust Kenilworth has reopened its doors to the public following a three-week closure caused by a parvovirus outbreak. This contagious and potentially fatal virus was confirmed in one of the dogs, prompting the center to take swift action to protect all the animals in their care.

Parvovirus is notorious for causing severe gastrointestinal distress in infected dogs, manifesting as vomiting and diarrhea, and can be deadly without immediate intervention. Thanks to the dedication of the staff and rapid containment measures, Dogs Trust Kenilworth ensured that none of the other dogs showed symptoms or faced health risks during this challenging time.

Since reopening on September 30th, the center is focused on rapidly finding new loving homes for the dogs that have been waiting longer than anticipated. Dogs Trust shared their gratitude for the generosity of their supporters, stating, "We were able to provide an extra special time for our dogs during the closure with special enrichment toys and even more treats, thanks to your kindness.”

Alison Creaton, the assistant manager at the center, expressed immense thanks to both the supporters and staff, commending their hard work in caring for the dogs under such challenging circumstances. She is keen to encourage potential pet owners to visit and meet the dogs who are eager for a new family.

The center has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols and safety measures, including limited staff contact and barrier nursing, to guarantee the health of the dogs and staff. They now require visitors to ensure their dogs are fully vaccinated before they come to the center.

In an urgent appeal, Dogs Trust is highlighting some of the wonderful dogs looking for homes, including Teddy, a friendly lurcher, and Peter, a lovable crossbreed. "We’d like anyone considering welcoming a dog into their life to visit us - help these pooches find their forever homes in time for the holiday season," Creaton urged.

Dogs Trust Kenilworth is open to potential adopters on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM BST, and no appointments are needed.

Don’t miss your chance to make a difference in a dog’s life – come visit and perhaps find your new best friend!
