In an unforgettable night for Winnipeg Jets fans, goalkeeper Connor Hellebuyck has just added two prestigious trophies to his collection: the Hart Trophy, awarded to the NHL's most valuable player, and the Vezina Trophy, recognizing him as the league's best goalie for the second consecutive year and the third time overall.

Hellebuyck's impressive performance this past season has made him the first netminder to win the Hart Trophy since Carey Price a decade ago. With excitement in his voice, Hellebuyck expressed, "It means a lot. When a goalie gets noticed for such a big award, it really is special. This year was filled with positivity in the locker room, and we cherished every moment."

The 32-year-old from Commerce, Michigan, has now solidified his place among the legends of goaltending. He dominated the 2024-25 season with an astounding record of 47 wins, 12 losses, and 3 overtime losses, maintaining a stellar .925 save percentage and a remarkable 2.00 goals-against average with eight shutouts.

In the Hart Trophy voting, Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl came in a close second, while Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov followed in third, having previously won the Ted Lindsay Award for league MVP.

The Hart Trophy is determined by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, whilst the Vezina is awarded based on votes from the league's general managers. Hellebuyck astoundingly secured 183 out of 191 ballots, including 81 first-place votes, accumulating a total of 1,346 points.

Notably, Hellebuyck is now the fourth goalie since the NHL's expansion era began in 1967-68 to clinch the Hart Trophy, joining the ranks of Dominik Hasek, Jose Theodore, and Carey Price.

When it comes to the Vezina, Hellebuyck was the clear favorite, clinching 31 out of 32 first-place votes, surpassing contenders Andrei Vasilevskiy and Darcy Kuemper. This victory makes him the first player to repeat as Vezina winner since Martin Brodeur in the late 2000s.

However, despite his stellar regular-season success, Hellebuyck’s playoff performance faced challenges. He recorded two shutouts but only managed a 6-7 record in 13 starts, with an .866 save percentage and a 3.08 GAA during the postseason.

Hellebuyck previously showcased his talents as the United States' starting goalie in February’s 4 Nations Face-Off, where the team fell short against Canada in a nail-biting final.

This season, Kucherov led the NHL with 121 points, while Draisaitl was the top scorer with 52 goals, further proving how competitive the league has become.

As Hellebuyck reflects on his accomplishments, one thing is clear: with his talent and determination, he continues to make waves in the NHL, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what he'll achieve next!
