In a startling incident on Sunday morning, two CN Rail trains collided near Edson, Alberta, prompting an immediate investigation by the Transportation Safety Board.

This low-speed crash, which took place around 7:10 AM close to Highway 47 and Township Road 530, saw one train carrying grain and the other transporting batteries.

Cpl. Mathew Howell of the RCMP revealed that initial reports suggest a brake failure could be to blame for the collision.

Several grain cars derailed as a result of the impact, but thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

CN Rail spokesperson Ashley Michnowski confirmed that both rail crews and local first responders are currently at the scene conducting thorough investigations.

While freight operations have been interrupted, Michnowski assured the public that there are no fires or hazardous materials involved, and the area remains secure.

The tracks are currently closed as investigations continue, and CN Rail has issued an apology for the disruption caused by this incident.
