Overview of the Accidents

In a shocking turn of events, two separate collisions lit up the streets of Cambridge and Waterloo within just five minutes on Saturday morning, leading to a hectic day for the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).

First Accident in Cambridge

The first accident was reported at 9:15 a.m. in Cambridge. Authorities responded to a single-vehicle crash on Kossuth Road, where they discovered that a truck had lost control, careening off the road and crashing violently into a tree. Emergency services quickly rushed the driver, the sole occupant, to a nearby hospital for treatment. The aftermath of this unfortunate incident required police to close the surrounding area between Fountain Street North and Beaverdale Road for several hours while they conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. Fortunately, the road has since reopened to traffic.

Second Accident in Waterloo

But the drama didn’t stop there. Just five minutes later, at 9:20 a.m., another collision was reported in Waterloo, this time involving a hit-and-run situation where a black Toyota Camry struck the side of a building. Officers arrived at the intersection of King Street South and Erb Street West to find the building damaged but the vehicle and its driver missing. However, police soon located the suspect's vehicle not far from the scene.

Charges Filed

A 28-year-old man from Kitchener is now facing multiple charges, including careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of the accident. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this case, but the incident could have led to much worse.

Community Response

This unusual morning on the roads has left local residents and officials concerned about safety and driving behaviors in the area. WRPS is urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage related to these incidents to come forward, as community cooperation is vital in ensuring accountability on the roads. Keep an eye out, folks, and drive safely!
